Find the Hotel
Traveling to Sils-Maria is a big part of the holiday and the best advice on how to get there is by train and postbus using the Swiss excellent public transport. The closest major international airport is Zurich Airport (ZRH), while Milan Malpensa (MXP) in Italy can also be a solid alternative. From Zurich Airport, you travel on a train from the airport station on a 3.5-hour long extremely scenic journey to St. Moritz. That particular route, especially the last part starting from Chur, is in heads of being UNESCO World Heritage line and breathtaking.
You’ll arrive at St Moritz train station to find the bright yellow Swiss Post Bus right outside and from here, it’s a fantastic, short 20-minute journey on the Engadin lakes to Sils-Maria. The bus stops at ‘Sils/Segl Maria, Posta’ in the middle of the village and is only a few minutes walk to Hotel Schweizerhof. This train-to-bus connection makes it so easy to work your way through the system with no worry about driving and really great for soaking up the scenery.
Driving to Sils-Maria takes roughly 3 hours from Zurich if there aren't any traffic jams and if one goes through a high mountain pass like the Julier Pass or uses a car-train service like the one through the Vereina Tunnel. Part of the drive is pretty, but you need to come prepared for alpine driving conditions. Snow tires or chains are required in winter. Private parking is offered at the hotel at a charge per day, which is an essential comfort because parking in the village is very limited.
