Guest Tips

One of the major pros of the summer residence at this hotel is said pass accompanying ‘Engadin Card’, which allows a holder to travel with a free-of-charge mountain cable way with respect to all means of public transportation throughout the entire Upper Engadin, such as postbuses and trains. Such convenience turns out to be highly advantageous, and doing your way around the whole valley from the Corvatsch peak to the Diavolezza glacier is completely free of any hassles. So do ask for confirmation about this when booking – it changes everything about a summer holiday.

For a very special and charming side of Sils-Maria, take a horse-drawn carriage from the village square into the Fex Valley: it’s one of the most romantic and nostalgic ways to travel through a car-free portion of the Alps’ most unspoiled landscapes. You can take a carriage up to the end of the valley, have a nice lunch at one of the old mountain inns, maybe at Hotel Fex, and leisurely walk back down to Sils-Maria in the afternoon.

For a good dining experience, then consider taking the half-board dinner when it is generally quite good with a multi-course menu that changes on a daily basis and much better would warrant the charges of Dining a la carte every night. But still, one of your evenings should be a walk to the more formal Hotel Waldhaus, sitting grandly on a hill; enjoy a classic cocktail in their legendary bar for a totally different “old world” evening.

The best way to organize your hikes is to follow the quite comprehensive system of marked trails starting right out of the town. One of the nicest and not too demanding walks is the “Three Lakes” hike taking you from Sils, along the coast of Lake Sils and Lake Silvaplana, to St. Moritz. From there it’s very easy to postbus back to the hotel, which makes it so possible not to retrace your steps and take a great end-to-end hike.
